HFI DPC
The High Frequency Instrument Data Processing Centre deals with the HFI data collected by the Planck satellite. The HFI data are combined with those of LFI to provide the astrophysical community with:
Cleaned and calibrated Timelines for all the Planck detectors
Sky Maps for each frequency channel
Maps of the sky for each detected astrophysical component
An estimate of the CMB Power spectrum.
For insight on how the HFI DPC was planned back in 2005, read: the "Planck HFI DPC Science Implementation Plan"

The HFI DPC is organised as an international consortium and coordinated from the IAP (Paris, France) with the help of the IAS (Orsay, France). Collaboration within the consortium is organised as follows:
Level 1: Data Acquisition
Dealing with MOC (ESA’s Mission Operation Centre), Level 1 retrieves house-keeping and science data sent by Planck and prepares the data for further treatment.
In charge: L Vibert (IAS, Paris, France).
Level 2: Data Processing
Level 2 is in charge of the whole 1D (i.e. detectors timelines) and subsequent creation of 2D sky maps. These maps are produced by combining the data from all detectors at each frequency, and give a view of the sky in both intensity and polarisation components, and the CMB.
The processing includes astrometric and photometric calibration, glitch removal, control of systematics.
In charge: A. Moneti (IAP, Paris, France).
Level 3: Component Separation
Using HFI and LFI data Level 3 separates astrophysical components to generate sky maps and/or catalogues (several galactic and extra-galactic components and the CMB ). An added task is computing the cosmic background’s power spectrum.
In charge: M. Ashdown (IoA, Cambridge, U.K.).
Level 4: Data Release
Prepares the HFI and LFI data (timelines, maps, ...) and descriptions, for ingestion to the Planck Legacy Archive at ESA.
In charge: [F. Bouchet] (IAP, Paris, France).
Level S: Simulations
To prepare test HFI and LFI data that can be useful in developing the analysis pipeline described.
In charge: T. Ensslin (MPA, Garching, Germany).
HDI (HFI DPC Infrastructure:
Support for the HFI and LFI activities. Includes:
- FedL: Access manager and a Federating system.
- DMS: Document Managing System (using Livelink [2]).
- SwR: Development tools (Source code management, Configuration Management, Software Repositories, ...).
- DMC: Data Management Component
- Thinc: Tool to create, control, run & monitor various instances of the analysis pipeline.
Involved Institutes: OAT for LFI, IAP & IAS for HFI, RSSD-ESA & MPA for both HFI & LFI.
In charge: Manager J. Sternberg. (RSSD-ESA, Noordwijk, Netherlands)
